The recital gives a good impression of Frisian art song from the early 20th century to the present day. The première was on Sunday 4 November 2012 at De Bloemerstee in Goingarijp. On Saturday 17 November 2012 they performed part of the repertoire as a musical interlude during the annual Fedde Schurer lectures at Tresoar in Leeuwarden.
What makes this programme special is that it includes a number of compositions by Wanda’s great-grandmother, Aafke Komter-Kuipers. She lived from 1876 to 1943 and was a musicologist, pianist and composer. In 2011 a biography of this talented Frisian woman living outside Friesland (“om utens”) was published under the auspices of the Fryske Akademy. The programme also includes songs by Paulus Folkertsma, Tjeerd Nielsen, Bernard Smilde, Hindrik van der Meer and Rixt van der Kooy, to poems by Fedde Schurer, Ype Poortinga and others.
