‘MOTHERS’ was the theme of this sold-out song recital, celebrating motherhood and the love of mothers for their children and of children for their mothers.
Soprano Wanda Peters and pianist Abigail Richards performed moving songs and, together with alto José Scholte, duets about every aspect of motherhood. The programme included works by Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Britten and Franck, among others, in no fewer than 15 languages. Actress Tonneke van der Sluijs made the songs accessible to everyone and brought out the story line, from the young mother with her newborn child to the old mother honoured for her love and devotion. It was a very special evening! It was a benefit concert that Wanda gave on her 50th birthday, raising no less than €3,434 for two charities: the Kampala Music School and Kiran Namaste (a project for homeless single mothers in Nepal).
