This cookie policy explains which cookies and similar technologies the Zangstudio Elst website uses, what for, how long they are kept and how you can change your choice. How we handle personal data is explained in the privacy statement.
In short: this website uses no cookies for statistics, advertising or social media, and does not track you. We only use what is necessary, and ask for your consent first for two extras: remembering the read-aloud player settings and loading YouTube videos.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage (localStorage), work in the same way. Below we call them all “cookies”. A cookie from the website you are visiting is a first-party cookie; a cookie from another party, such as YouTube, is a third-party cookie.
2. Which cookies do we use?
2.1 Necessary (always on)
Without these cookies the website does not work properly or securely. No consent is needed for them.
zse_consent — first-party cookie
- Purpose: remembers your cookie choice, so we do not ask again on every visit. It only contains the version number of this policy, your choices and the date. It contains no personal data.
- Retention: 12 months.
zse_session — first-party cookie, only for those who log in to manage the website
- Purpose: keeps the website manager logged in. Ordinary visitors never get this cookie.
- Retention: until you log out, after 7 days without activity, or after 30 days at most.
zse_login_csrf — first-party cookie, only on the login page of the management system
- Purpose: protects the login form against misuse.
- Retention: 12 hours.
Security by Cloudflare — first-party cookies, only when needed
- Purpose: our hosting provider Cloudflare may set a security cookie (such as
__cf_bm,cf_clearanceor_cfuvid) when traffic looks suspicious, to tell people apart from spam bots. Cloudflare does not use these cookies to track you. - Retention: usually from 30 minutes to the end of the session.
2.2 Preferences (only with consent)
zse-read-aloud — local storage in your browser
- Purpose: remembers the read-aloud player settings, such as speed, volume, follow-along highlighting and auto-scrolling. The data stays in your browser and is not sent to us.
- Retention: until you withdraw your consent or clear your browser data. If you withdraw your consent, we delete these settings straight away.
- Without consent the player still works; your settings then only last while you are on the page.
2.3 External media (only with consent)
YouTube (Google) — third-party cookies
- Purpose: the recordings page shows videos from YouTube. Only when you load a video does your browser connect to YouTube. YouTube may then use cookies and local storage (such as
YSC,VISITOR_INFO1_LIVEandyt-remote-device-id), for example to play the video properly, prevent abuse and keep statistics. We use the more privacy-friendly youtube-nocookie.com variant. - Who is responsible: Google, under Google’s privacy policy.
- Retention: set by Google, from the end of the session to about six months.
- Without consent you see a preview image (from our own website) with a play button. If you click it, we load only that one video. You can always watch the video on YouTube itself as well.
3. Making and changing your choice
On your first visit we ask what you want to allow. “Allow all” and “Reject all” are equally easy, and nothing is ticked in advance. Rejecting makes no difference to reading the website or listening to the recordings.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via Cookie settings at the bottom of every page, or at the top of this page. A change takes effect immediately.
Your choice is valid for 12 months. After that, or if we change this policy significantly, we will ask again.
Does your browser send a signal that you do not want to be tracked (Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track)? Then we treat that as “reject” and do not show you the banner. You can still switch something on yourself via Cookie settings.
4. Deleting cookies in your browser
You can also view and delete cookies and local storage yourself in your browser. YouTube cookies can only be deleted that way, because they belong to YouTube and not to this website. Instructions per browser:
If you delete the zse_consent cookie, we will ask for your choice again on your next visit.
