In April 2019 Soroptimist club Zeist e.o. celebrated its 60th anniversary with a concert by kwARTet, the ensemble of four Soroptimists and professional musicians who had earlier performed the programme WOMEN – joys and sorrows. More than 130 people attended. Soprano Esther Putter stood in for Irene Maessen. The proceeds went to School for Justice, the project supported nationally by the Dutch Union of Soroptimist clubs.
After a welcome by club president Marianne Morren, the audience heard songs in many languages: lullabies by Roger Quilter, César Franck, Manuel de Falla and Gabriel Fauré among others, songs by Robert Schumann, Catharina van Rennes and Ilse Weber, Frisian songs by Rixt van der Kooij and Aafke Komter-Kuipers, and after the interval Franz Schubert’s Gretchen am Spinnrade and songs by Chopin, Martinů and Dvořák.
